Parrish v. Arkansas Department of Human Services

Court of Appeals of Arkansas, Division I
Apr 14, 2010
2010 Ark. App. 327 (Ark. Ct. App. 2010)

Opinion

CA 09-571

Opinion Delivered April 14, 2010

Appeal from the Miller County Circuit Court, [No. JV-2008-323-1], Honorable Joe E. Griffin, Judge, Affirmed.

Carlos and Sophia Thorne Parrish, who married when she was twelve and he was nineteen, are the parents of a son, G.P.1, born in 2001, and three daughters, G.T.2, born in 2003; G.T.3, born in 2005; and G.T.4, born in 2007. The Parrishes appeal from an order adjudicating their children dependent-neglected after they were removed from the Tony Alamo Christian Ministries compound in Fouke, Arkansas, in November 2008. In the same proceeding, the circuit court adjudicated the children of Don Thorne, Bethany Myers, and Albert and Miriam Krantz dependent-neglected.

On appeal, all of the parents make the same arguments: that the evidence does not support the findings of dependency-neglect, and that the trial court violated their rights to freely exercise their religion by requiring them to obtain and maintain housing and employment separate and apart from the ministry. In a separate opinion, we affirmed the adjudication order involving Don Thorne's children. Thorne v. Arkansas Dep't of Human Servs., 2010 Ark. 317, ___ S.W.3d ___. For the same reasons expressed in that opinion, we affirm the adjudication order involving the Parrishes' children.

Affirmed.

GRUBER and MARSHALL, JJ., agree.
